Ettore Sottsass

(Innsbruck, 1917 - Milano, 2007)

“Design is a way of discussing life. It is a way of discussing society, politics, eroticism, food and even design.”

A key character in the development of contemporary design, Ettore Sottsass put emotion before function. Based on this principle, he first designed experimental furniture for Poltronova and then founded the Memphis group, whose purpose was to give objects a symbolic, emotional and ritual depth.
